Getting this fighter moving

Vit’s numbered sword poses already looked right. The hard part was preserving them while making the movement between them feel natural.

Numbered poses on the left; smooth motion on the right. The slash effect is on in both. Art and reference animation: Vit

I’ve been working on how the fighters move in Collector. I want you to have your own character, try different weapons, and get good at fighting with them. A big part of that is being able to read an attack and decide whether to block, dodge, or punish it.

Vit and I just started working together. He’s creating the art and reference animations, and I’m using them to build a fighter from separate body and equipment pieces. That separation matters because the bigger goal is to let you make a fighter your own and change weapons and gear without rebuilding the whole character.

The hard part has been the movement between Vit’s numbered poses. The drawings looked right on their own, but connecting them made the sword take the wrong path around the helmet and shield. I had to keep the original poses intact while changing how the blade and weapon arm travel between them.

The clip shows those held poses beside the smooth version, with Vit’s slash effect visible in both. The timing is still provisional, and this animation isn’t in the public fights yet. The next question is how readable it feels in an actual exchange.
